Providence Canyon is a place that’s been on our bucket list for a while now. We stayed at an Airbnb in Columbus, GA, so the park wasn’t too far from there. We went early in the morning, to catch the cool weather. By the time we left, it was warm, the sun was out and the park started to get busy. Early bird gets the worm!
We started by visiting the gift shop, as we usually do. They had handmade ceramic coffee mugs, which we reluctantly passed on. Looking back, I wish we would have purchased one. We started the hike at the beautiful park before the sun was fully out. It wasn’t too difficult, surprisingly. The only downside to the whole experience was how wet certain sections were. Aside from that, it was amazing. They call this place the “Mini Grand Canyon”, and for good reason. It features many alcoves, canyons, hills and structures reminiscent of The Grand Canyon. If you’re on the East Coast, this is the closest thing we have to that iconic park.
While most of what makes this place great are the features similar to the Grand Canyon, it’s also diverse. The hiking trail takes you through the canyons, but once that is over, you go through the woods, which is a nice change of scenery. It’s more of a linear trail that features various flora and fauna, along with several old antique trucks that are barely recognizable anymore. Once we nearly reached the parking lot, where we first started, you get beautiful, landscape-style views of the canyons. It’s like the cherry on top once it’s all over.
This is a place everyone must see at least once. It’s a sight to behold, whether you’re an outdoor lover or not. The hike is simple and enough for anyone to handle without getting worn out. Even the kids can enjoy it.
That’s another destination down, now it’s off to the next adventure!
